Safeguarding & Online Safety

Safeguarding at Burston & Tivetshall Primary Schools

Safeguarding children is of paramount importance to all staff at Burston and Tivetshall Primary Schools. We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for children, staff and visitors and promoting a climate where children and adults feel confident about sharing any concerns which they may have about their own safety or the wellbeing of others.

Safeguarding practices and procedures are part of our day-to-day work at school and form our commitment to keeping children safe in education. You can find out more by reading our safeguarding policy, which can be found in our policies section.

Ms S Underwood is the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Burston Primary School and Mr T Henry  is the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Tivetshall Primary School. There are also Alternate DSLs: Mrs K Millar, Mrs G Kerr, Mrs C North and Mr B Alymer. All of these members of staff have received specialist training in safeguarding.

All staff, at every level of the organisation, have regular safeguarding training. This is to ensure that everyone knows what to do if there is a concern about the safety of any child in our schools. In addition to this, the schools are part of a wider network of safeguarding practice, both within Sapientia Education Trust and also our local group of schools.

If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child at Burston and Tivetshall Primary Schools, please speak to a member of staff immediately. They will know what to do with this information. Alternatively, Norfolk has a special service, CADs (Children's Advice and Duty Service), which members of the public can call if they have concerns. The number is 0344 800 820

There are a number of very helpful websites that can be accessed, to give parents and children an understanding of safeguarding and how to keep safe

Childline

NSPCC

CEOP

Through all areas of the curriculum we encourage children to think about how to stay safe: at home, crossing the road, out on their own, or on the internet. Regular PSHE lessons, computing and assemblies all help to reinforce these key messages. There are posters in prominent places around the school buildings to help reinforce this and to provide children with reminders about what they can do if they don't feel safe or are worried about something.

Operation Encompass

At Burston & Tivetshall Primary Schools we are working in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Children’s Services to identify and provide appropriate support to pupils who have experienced domestic violence in their household; this scheme is called Operation Encompass. In order to achieve this, Norfolk Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub will share police information of all domestic incidents where one of our pupils has been present with the Designated Safeguarding Lead(s). On receipt of any information, the Designated Safeguarding Lead will decide on the appropriate support the child requires, this could be silent or overt. All information sharing and resulting actions will be undertaken in accordance with the ‘Norfolk Joint Agency Protocol for Domestic Abuse – Notifications to Schools’. We will record this information and store this information in accordance with the record keeping procedures outlined in the policy.
